 Dear students,

Welcome to AEFS reading class. For the AEFS reading unit, we will be using our class blog as one of the online delivery platforms. I will be putting resources and tasks for you to complete and send them back to me as blog posts or via email so you can practise. The course delivery will be

in class face-to-face.

WEEK 3 - 5 JOURNAL ARTICLES

Journal articles are shorter than books and written about very specific topics. journal is a collection of articles (like a magazine) that is published regularly throughout the year. Journals present the most recent research, and journal articles are written by scholars or professionals who are experts in their field. They may be published in print or online formats, or both. 

The language of scholarly journals is that of the discipline covered. It assumes some technical background on the part of the reader.
The main purpose of a scholarly journal is to report on original research or experimentation in order to make such information available to the rest of the scholarly world.

Complete the following tasks:

TASK 1:
  • Watch 'What is a journal article?', and get familiar with the text type
  • Watch Journal vs Popular Articles and discuss the differences
  • Watch 'Elements of Journal Articles'
  • Watch 'Tips for reading journal articles

TASK 2:
  • Find a journal article of your interest (health, education, sport etc.)
  • Write your notes using the different parts of the journal/periodical
  • Complete your summary based on your notes
